ALRO S.A., a major player in the European aluminium production sector, is taking substantial steps towards reducing its ecological footprint and enhancing competitiveness. The company has greenlit three new investment projects totaling €15 million. These initiatives aim to decarbonize its processes while aligning with the latest environmental standards.
Gheorghe DOBRA, CEO of ALRO, expressed their commitment to sustainability in a related press release.
“Over the last 20 years, we have implemented a complex investment program to transform ALRO into a producer of aluminium with high added value and minimal environmental impact.”
The three projects hold significant promise:
- Photovoltaic Power Station: ALRO will install a photovoltaic power station with a 1500 KW capacity in its parking area. This will help reduce carbon emissions by using green energy in its technological processes, particularly in the Cast House.
- Fume Treatment Plant Expansion: ALRO is extending its fume treatment plant to encompass the billet and slab casting machine. This expansion will ensure the controlled discharge and treatment of exhaust gases from all furnaces in the Cast House, aligning with stringent emissions targets.
- Product Portfolio Development: The company is procuring and installing equipment for longitudinal cutting and milling of slabs. This investment will enable ALRO to produce complex semi-finished high-value products tailored to aerospace and automotive applications, enhancing its competitiveness.
ALRO’s investment program over the past two decades has exceeded US$885 million, with a significant portion directed towards state-of-the-art technology, operational efficiency, and environmental protection. This approach has diversified the product portfolio, facilitated entry into markets like automotive and aerospace, and reduced the ecological footprint.
In addition to these achievements, ALRO has earned notable quality certifications, including compliance with international aerospace and defense industry standards, NADCAP certification, and ASI Performance Standards for business sustainability.
ALRO says its commitment to sustainability and technological innovation is propelling the company towards a greener and more competitive future in the aluminium industry.
