The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) rose its membership to 300 last week when it welcomed Wyda South Africa into the fold.
Wyda South Africa enters ASI as an Industrial User. ASI reached its 300th member less than two years after reaching its 200th member in November 2021.
Chanel Swartz, Internal Sales, said in a press release that his firm’s goals align very closely with those of the ASI.
“As one of the largest foil converters in Africa, we feel the need to align ourselves to ASI in order to improve our performance and scale up our progress on key environmental, social and governance issues.”
Wyda South Africa is a division of Brazilian firm Wyda Industria de Embalagens, which specializes in packaging. Wyda South Africa concentrates its efforts on producing disposable aluminium foil containers, trays, and dishes for the food processing and food catering sector.
ASI began in June 2015 with only 13 members and a mission to make aluminium production more sustainable. The organization has grown by leaps and bounds since then, especially after developing its first sustainability standards in 2017.
The ASI is a worldwide organization dedicated to setting industrial standards and certifications in the aluminium industry. The association brings together the various stakeholders in the aluminium industry in order to achieve objectives including sustainable production methods, material chain-of-custody procedures, recycling, social impacts related to aluminium production, and production standards.
