American aluminium smelter Constellium was one of a select group of industrial companies and labor organizations to meet with senior-level officials in the Biden Administration at last week’s Roundtable on Industrial Innovation and Decarbonization to discuss ongoing efforts at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and areas where the parties may potentially collaborate to that end.

Jean-Marc Germain, CEO of Constellium, spoke in support of the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law at the meeting on Friday, but advised the Biden Administration that it is important to preserve competitiveness and protect jobs along the way.

“I was honored to be invited to participate in this roundtable at the White House, and was thrilled to learn more about the many initiatives and efforts of the industry and the Administration to promote a low-carbon economy. Decarbonization is a critical topic that requires collaboration between the public and the private sectors, and Constellium is eager to continue to support efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote a circular economy.”

Germain concluded by noting the importance of recycling to maintaining a low-carbon economy, and advocated for deposit return programs in the United States in order to boost recycling rates.

Constellium has previously established a commitment to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 30 percent and increase its recycled input by 50 percent by the end of the decade.
