In a significant stride towards sustainability, Gränges’ production facility located in Konin, Poland has earned dual certification from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). This accomplishment is aligned with the Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard set by ASI, effectively fulfilling Gränges’ target to have all its aluminium rolling and recycling sites ASI certified by 2025.
The ASI, a global non-profit organization, orchestrates standards and certifications to elevate the contributions of aluminium towards a sustainable society. As of the recent certification, Gränges has successfully certified all its aluminium rolling facilities across the globe.
Sofia Hedevåg, SVP Sustainability, noted the importance of the certifications in a press release.
“Ensuring that our aluminium products are responsibly sourced and produced is a cornerstone in our sustainability strategy. Certifying our facilities against ASI gives our customers the transparency and chain of custody that they need to ensure responsibly produced products. It is also a clear testimony of Gränges’ sustainability leadership within the aluminium industry.”
The Konin operations, integrated into Gränges’ framework since 2020, have undergone significant adjustments to align with Gränges’ robust sustainability objectives throughout the entire value chain. Fredrik Spens, President of Gränges Europe, emphasized the positive implications of this achievement, “Having all aluminium rolling and recycling facilities certified against ASI strengthens Gränges’ competitiveness and attractiveness to customers globally.”
The objective to have all production sites ASI certified by 2025 was initially set in 2019. However, it’s noteworthy that Gränges Powder Metallurgy in Saint Avold, France, is not enveloped in the certification scope.
ASI’s Performance Standard outlines the environmental, social, and governance principles, aimed at mitigating sustainability challenges within the aluminium value chain. Meanwhile, the Chain of Custody certification ensures Gränges’ products are responsibly sourced and produced from the extraction of raw materials to the finished aluminium product.
The audit of Gränges Konin was independently conducted by TÜV Rheinland, solidifying the facility’s adherence to the stringent standards set forth by ASI, and marking a significant milestone in Gränges’ journey towards sustainability within the aluminium industry.
