Atlanta’s rolled aluminium firm Novelis Inc. was named Hyundai Motor Group’s “2022 Supplier of the Year” last week at the automaker’s yearly “Partnrship Day” in the Republic of Korea.
Novelis received recognition as a materials supplier after a comprehensive evaluation of the entirety of Hyundai’s aluminium and steel suppliers. Criteria for the evaluation included supply chain reliability, quality, and technical support.
Novelis supplies Hyundai with aluminium sheet at present, which is produced at its advanced aluminium rolling facility in Ulsan. The rolled aluminium is used in Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis for both interior and exterior applications and its electric vehicle (EV) offerings as well. Novelis notes that the high strength-to-weight products can be used for several applications, including hoods, doors and tailgates, full body structures, and EV battery enclosures.
Sachin Satpute, President, Novelis Asia, said in a press release that the award speaks to his firm’s dedication to low-carbon aluminium.
“We are very honored to be the first aluminum sheet maker that has won this recognition as Hyundai’s partner for material innovation. With more than 50 years of experience and technical expertise in automotive aluminum production and recycling, we are looking forward to expanding our partnership with Hyundai toward our shared goal of carbon neutrality.”
Novelis is a subsidiary of Mumbai’s Hindalco Industries Ltd. Based in Atlanta, the firm accounts for almost half of Hindalco’s consolidated revenue. The world’s largest recycler of aluminium, Novelis conducts operations in ten different countries, employs around eleven thousand people, and reported US$17.1 billion in net sales for the most recent fiscal year.
