In a significant move, Novelis, the frontrunner in sustainable aluminium solutions and a global leader in aluminium rolling and recycling, has announced the renewal of its contract with aviation giant, Airbus. This extension fortifies a collaboration that has thrived for over three decades.
Steve Fisher, President and CEO of Novelis Inc., elaborated upon the agreement in a press release.
“The agreement strengthens the enduring bond between Novelis and Airbus and showcases our dominance in offering avant-garde aluminium solutions to the commercial aerospace domain. Our sites in Koblenz, Germany, and Zhenjiang, China, are geared up to keep innovating and supplying Airbus with top-notch products.”
Under the renewed agreement, Novelis will provide Airbus with aluminium plates, sheets, and notably, wingskins tailored for the A320 aircraft lineage. These wingskins, crucial components of aircraft, necessitate intricate pre-machining and specialized alloys to meet the stringent standards of the aviation sector.
Johan Petry, Novelis’ Vice President of Aerospace and Industrial Plate, described the resources it has for the project.
“Our facility in Zhenjiang is adept at producing wingskins, demanding the utmost quality of materials and exact machining. With our expertise in Koblenz complementing our capabilities in Zhenjiang, we are poised to consistently deliver superior aluminium offerings to Airbus.”
Novelis stands out as the solitary supplier crafting aluminium flat-rolled items for the aerospace sector across both Europe and Asia. Both the Zhenjiang and Koblenz establishments boast certifications that empower them to cater fully to the needs of the aviation world.
